always find it amazing how fast the school year progresses. It is hard to
believe that the holiday season is almost upon us. As we approach the
Thanksgiving Holiday, I would like to let you know how “thankful” I am
that you allow me to be the principal at Butterfield. My life has become so
much richer as a result of this school and the students, parents, and staff
associated with it. I wish that everyone could know what it is like to go to
work everyday feeling that they are amongst family. I truly am thankful for
the opportunity to be your principal for the last ten years.
Service Activities: Our K-Kids service club is in the process of a holiday canned food
drive. Our community is in desperate need of canned food for the Marana Food
Bank. The latest word that we have gotten is that they are very, very low on
food heading into the holidays. Please assist us if you can by sending in
some canned food with your student. We are keeping the food in the cafeteria
so that the students can see the fruits of their labor and watch the pile
grow. We will be donating the food to the Marana Food Bank prior to
addition to the canned food drive, the K-Kids along with help from student
council will be holding our annual toy drive after the Thanksgiving break.
We are asking that each family that can afford to, donate an inexpensive,
new, unwrapped toy for the holidays. These toys will be donated to the
Miracle in Marana program, which provides food and toys to thousands in our
community each year. We have historically provided about 650 new toys each
year. Student council will be putting up a tree in our outside courtyard
tracking our progress. While we need your help, please understand that we
know that there are families that will not be able to participate due to
financial need. That is perfectly okay.
we are on the subject, if your family is in need this holiday season or you
know of a Butterfield family that needs assistance please let me know as
soon as possible. We certainly want to take care of our own community first.
Items at School: Many of our students are bringing a variety of toys, trading cards,
collectibles etc. to school. In many cases, these items provide a quiet,
fun, safe recess activity so we have been hesitant to tell the students that
they can’t bring them, however, I need to emphasize that the school will
not be responsible for lost items. The teachers and administration have many
other things to do than to try to hunt down trading cards etc. Please
reinforce to your children that they bring these items to school at their
own risk and of course, all cards etc. must be in line with our school rules
and only be used at recess times. As is stated in our handbook, no
electronic games may be brought to school. Thanks for your assistance.
I wanted to remind you of the information that I put in a short note, which
went home with the standards, reports related to student recognition. We
will hold our goal setting awards programs as always to honor our students
who met their first trimester goals. We are almost ready with a proposal for
additional awards based on the behaviors that promote learning and for
students that are excelling academically. I will send something home
outlining our new program either before the winter break or in the January
newsletter right after our return from the break.
behalf of the entire Butterfield staff, I would like to wish you a wonderful
Thanksgiving and a restful and peaceful holiday season.
